The Queen went to Florence Italy for vacation and was greatly pleased by a tiny pom named Marco. She brought hu=im home to British. Then she exhibited many poms back home. One of her famous Pomeranian was Windsor’s Marco. She loved them so much, that even when the Queen was dying, her favorite dogs were allowed to the sickroom so she might play with them.
The English Kennel Club recognized the Pomeranian Dogs in 1870 and in 1871 there were three entries at one of the big dog shows. Dog Pomeranian club was then founded in 1871. One of the earliest enthusiasts was Miss Lilla Ives. She imported many Pomeranians from Germany. It is interesting to know that most of the early Pomeranian breeders were all women, and most of the early kennels were founded by women.
As was mentioned in my previous post, the early Pomeranian Dogs weight at least 20 pounds and were mostly back or white in color. It was The English breeders who brought the dog down size and developed the many different colors, such as creams and white. Very small poms that weight less than 7 pounds were then differentiated from the larger ones that weighed more than 7 pounds.
